“Trusting God” For Your 2022 New Year’s Resolution?

Updated: Nov 3, 2022

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

God is the Great I am, the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the owner of every cattle on a thousand hills, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the Creator of grass, the herb that yields seed, the fruit trees that yields fruit, the One who divided light from darkness and made day and night. He is Omnipresent, Omniscient and Omnipotent. On and On... Finally, the Creator of man, made in His own image. Now, let’s sit back and meditate on that for a few minutes.

The other day I was watching an old television sitcom. One of the characters needed advice about a major life decision. He asked everyone’s opinion and got nothing. He turned to a magic eight ball. I know that’s not real life but we sometimes trust in the roll of the dice or toss a coin hoping for heads or tails. A real life scenario could be a married woman calling her single friends for marriage advice. We sometimes say, “I am trusting God”, with our mouths and in our hearts we began to devise plans contrary to God’s plans and council. Our actions are far from trust and faith. Trusting God is NOT a gamble, His word is true. Do you want Real advice? Trust God.

Proverbs 12:21- There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless the Lord’s counsel- that will stand.

There are six steps to position yourself in 2022.

No matter what life throws at you.

The six steps below are not only great steps and scriptures to position yourself for the New Year but it is also a great way to grow in your relationship with God. If you have never trusted God before in life, I will personally tell you that you have nothing to lose. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. We need the wisdom of God.

Provbers 3:13-18 Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding; For her proceeds, are better than the profits of silver, and her gain than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her. Length of days is in her right hand, In her left hand riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, And happy are all who retain her.

1. Repentance

It is always best to start with a clear conscience. The cure to worldliness is to submit to God and repent. James 4:7-8- Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you doubleminded.

2. Read the Word

I heard many people say that the bible does not apply for today. Another myth of the written word of God is it’s inspiration was originated by man. 2Timothy 3:16-17- All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

God will back up His Word, He promises the authenticity and the manifestation of His word. Let’s look at Isaiah 55.

Isaiah 55:10 – 11 - “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater, 11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

Finally, you will acquire a blessing from reading the word.

Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall

Meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is

Written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then your will have

Good success.

3. Fasting/Prayer

Isaiah 58:6-9 - Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh? Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; You shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.

4. Abide in His Presence

Psalms 91:1-2 - He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”

5. Listen/Wait upon the Lord

Isaiah 55:3 Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you—Take every thought captive. A double-minded man will receive nothing.

6. Write a vision/ Plan out the year. Write it down and run with it.

Habakkuk 2:3 -Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.

No one knows the plans that God has for you more than God. Often times we seek the council of man before we council with God. Your plan need to line up with His plans.

Conclusion

Your concentrated efforts towards trusting and believing God’s word in this year’s New Year resolution will bring about change and results. Your family and friends will even say, “There’s something different about you.” The renewing of your mind by meditating on the word of God produces transformation. Your desires will change. God’s desires will become your desires. His plans dropped into your spirit will aligned with yours. Trust in His words. Jeremiah 29:11-13 says - For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
